Erica Myers
In my role as Clinical Director at Creative Family Counseling, I oversee mental health clinical services and enhance the professional development of our team members. I also see clients at the Prospect Campus with my favorite coworker, Makas the Therapy Dog. I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor-Supervisor, Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor, a Certified Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapist, and EMDR-Certified Therapist. As a parent of a nine-year-old, I am passionate about adoption and the healing that can happen within families. I utilize both child-centered parenting and Positive Discipline modalities.
Over the years, I have worked in various organizations such as non-profits, community mental health, addiction treatment, inpatient care and outpatient services. I enjoy working with children (ages 3+), teens, parents, families, and adults and my specialties include childhood trauma (specifically abuse and neglect), anxiety, panic, depression, adoption/ blended families and childhood behavioral issues. As a Certified AutPlay Therapist I also work with children on the Autism Spectrum.
Because Play Therapy meets children at their developmental level and allows a child to process emotions, grow confidence and insight, learn coping skills, and solve and overcome problems in their lives, I most prefer using playful approaches in therapy with young clients. Play therapy is a powerful tool in my therapeutic toolkit.
I joined CFC in July 2021 after relocating to the Louisville area. I have over 16 years of experience as a licensed counselor, and I enjoy one-on-one time with clients and their families, helping them find a path toward being the best version of themselves and finding a passion for life. Originally from Eastern Kentucky, I offer a non-judgmental, caring space for working collaboratively with clients. I can be direct when necessary, but I try to do this gently. I employ many creative forms of expression, humor, and animal-assisted therapy to meet client goals. I love the science of counseling theory, but I equally appreciate the art of the relationship.
You can find me playing outdoors or reading a book in my free time unless I’m at a concert or festival. I prefer Marvel over DC, and I’ll always beat you at music trivia. My favorite book is Ender’s Game, and my Harry Potter character is Albus Dumbledore.
