Leigh Bates

I am a Licensed Professional Art Therapist and Licensed Professional Counselor who loves using Art Therapy and Play Therapy interventions as a safe and fun way to connect with children and adolescents. With 5+ years of experience, I am confident that I can work with you or your family to create a happier, more cohesive environment in your home. When working with kids, I especially want to make my office as warm and inviting as my personality is. I started my career in inpatient hospital settings where I developed a strong passion for helping kids, teens, and families. Now, as a Certified Positive Discipline Parent Educator, I enjoy working with parents to broaden their parenting toolkits.
I highly value working with my clients to process trauma, develop a strong sense of self, and promote healthy living.
After graduating from Auburn University in 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts and a minor in Psychology, I received my Masters in Education in Counseling and Personnel Services with a concentration in Art Therapy from the University of Louisville. I am currently an Independently Licensed Art Therapist and received my Board Certification in 2019. In addition to my art therapy background, I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and have been since 2021. I am currently on track to become a Registered Play Therapist by August 2023. As the Community Outreach Coordinator at Creative Family Counseling, I help connect the Louisville community with our practice’s expert services.
As an Art Therapist, I strive to provide a warm environment where clients feel secure to explore social and emotional concerns. I have a passion for creativity and communication and am passionate about helping others tap into their potential throughout the creative process. In my free time I enjoy traveling while spending time with friends and family.
