Megan McCarty
I am a Marriage and Family Therapist Associate and Certified AutPlay® Therapist who is working toward Play Therapy certification. I am also a Certified Positive Discipline Parent Educator. My approach is open-minded, caring, creative, and dedicated to helping you achieve your family’s goals. I most enjoy working with families including young children and adolescents, helping both children and parents to increase their toolkits for the challenges they face, as well as those wishing to incorporate their personal spirituality into their counseling experience.
With a background in art, I enjoy incorporating creative interventions in the therapy room. By having a collaborative approach with clients, and with the use of Play Therapy and other techniques, I am able to help clients meet their goals in age appropriate, “fun” ways.
As a Certified AutPlay® Therapist, I have specialized training in a play and behavioral therapy approach that helps children who struggle specifically with attention problems, hyperactivity, emotional dysregulation, Autism-Spectrum Disorders and other neurodevelopmental disorders.
My specialties include:
- anxiety
- depression
- childhood behavioral issues
- panic
- parenting concerns
- co-parenting strategies
- grief
- suicidal ideation and self harming
I am a native Texan and attended Austin College, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Art and Anthropology in 2009. After working in Miami, FL with Central American and Haitian refugees, I earned a dual Masters Degree in Divinity and Marriage and Family Therapy from Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary. I am ordained in the Presbyterian Church (USA) and am currently serving as an associate pastor when I am not working at Creative Family Counseling. I am currently under the Clinical Supervision of Lacey Ryan, LMFT, RPT-S, and I am seeking licensure in Marriage and Family Therapy, as well as Certification in Play Therapy.
I believe that spirituality can be an important component of a person’s healing process. I honor and welcome any and all faith tradition and backgrounds of my clients, including no faith or spiritual background. If you desire Spiritually Integrative Therapy, I will provide a non-judgmental, open-minded space for us to work this into your goals.
As a client-centered therapist, my clients’ goals are my goals. Together we will find creative solutions to the challenges in your life and move you toward living life to its fullest and happiest. I consider this walk alongside my clients an honor as we learn and grow together.
