Parenting Classes – Parent University
As parents, many of us find ourselves replicating patterns of parenting that we were taught as young children by our parents. Our parents replicated patterns from their parents. And on and on the generational patterns go. Parenting themes which include love, acceptance, advocacy, kindness, discipline, and protection are worth replicating, but others which include harshness, disconnection, chaos, lack of boundaries, isolation, and even abuse should be abandoned.
At this point in history, we are afforded the great gift of research and access to knowledge, which parents before us may not have had access to. As the wise Dr. Maya Angelou said, “Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.” As more and more research proves how the way we were parented predicts and influences life outcomes in virtually every aspect of our lives, we have the opportunity to learn from it and change future generations. We can improve our parenting skills, increasing parenting tools which grow in kindness & connection along with limits & boundaries at the same time.
The ability to parent in both a kind and firm way is at the root of Positive Discipline Parenting. Creative Family Counseling now offers Parenting Classes, which we call Parent University. Parent University focuses on implementing the parenting skills introduced at our Intensive Parenting Workshop or in our 3-Week Parenting Course. During our workshops and the 3-week course, parents receive an introduction to the philosophy of Positive Discipline and are taught some of our favorite skills from this parenting program.
Parent University is then offered as a follow up to the completion of a Parenting Workshop or 3-Week Course.
