Katy Anderson, MAMFT

Everyone deserves loving connection and when we have that need met, we feel more harmonious in general.

I hope to provide a safe, compassionate space for my clients that allows them to help reach their therapy goals with me, finding more harmony, positive connection, and reduced anxiety in your life and in your family’s home.

I work at Creative Family Counseling in Louisville, Kentucky in our Prospect office and see children (4+), teens, adults, couples, and families

I enjoy working with children and families who:

  • are navigating stress,
  • are navigating food allergies in their own lives or in their family
  • dealing with concerns around adjustment during life transitions and developmental milestones, and changes in family dynamics and structure, and
  • are experiencing challenges with emotional expression, self-regulation, anxiety, and social skills.

I take a strengths-based and solution-oriented approach when working with clients, helping to build on strengths that are already present within someone or their family. I also enjoy utilizing play and creative expression in therapy, particularly with children. Using more experiential techniques can be extremely helpful to process issues that may be difficult to express with words.

I hope to provide a safe space where people can feel vulnerable and open, helping to foster healing and growth. It is important that the therapeutic space is collaborative, and people feel empowered and feel that they can achieve and meet their own goals.

I have experience working with clients of diverse backgrounds and am LGBTQIA+ Allied. I am currently a Marriage and Family Therapy Associate and am under the supervision of Rebecca Street, LMFT. I am currently seeking supervision in play therapy to build on the success I have seen with play and creativity in therapy. Additionally, I am always spending time doing my own research, taking trainings, and learning more about the work I feel passionate about, including working with families with food allergies.

As a Certified Positive Discipline Parent Educator, I enjoy helping parents and families feel confident and managing challenges that arise at home. I believe in the power of education, being able to help people feel equipped with tools is something I am very passionate about. This also significantly influences my work with families, individuals, and children who have food allergies.

I am a member of the Academy of Food Allergy Counseling, a professional network designated to continuing food allergy counseling awareness and professional development in the field. Feeling comfortable and equipped in helping individuals navigating food allergy experiences, anxiety or depression, social isolation, bullying, or any other emotional or behavioral issues impacting one’s life because of food allergies. Helping people develop skills and coping to help navigate the unique stress and anxiety food allergies bring is something that I care deeply about on a professional and personal level.

I have completed Levels 1 and 2 Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy, as well as the Gottman Emotion Coaching Curriculum for Parents. I also have additional training in working with families who are navigating new life transitions, particularly uncoupling, divorce, and co-parenting. These can be painful experiences that can be difficult to navigate, and I hope to provide a space to help families navigate these transitions in a way that provide comfort and a part forward that is best for co-parents and children in within the family.

While I am originally from South Carolina, I attended Florida State University and received my Bachelor’s degree in Family and Child Sciences. While in school, I developed a passion for education and prevention work around family life and human development, which led me to pursue my Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. Growing up in my own family system, I had a sibling with significant food allergies that altered my own family dynamic and helped me develop a passion and inspires me to help other families navigate this challenge in their own lives. I also have my own food allergies as well, and personally understand the impact that food allergies can have on one’s life and the lives of those around you.
