Melanie Summers, LPCA

Everyone deserves connection and counseling can help reconnect us when we’ve become disconnected.

I work with children (ages 2 and up), adolescents, teens, and adults that are experiencing difficulties related to stress, anxiety, depression, addiction, self-regulation, adjustment to life changes and transitions, trauma, and grief.

I am a Licensed Professional Counseling Associate and University of the Cumberlands graduate. I am working towards a registered play therapy certification. I work under the clinical supervision of Erica Myers, LPCC-S, RPT-S. My therapeutic approach is trauma-informed, non-judgmental, and collaborative.

As a certified yoga therapist with the International Association of Yoga Therapy and reiki practitioner, I address both mental health difficulties and body/somatic experiences taking a mind-body approach. As a Positive Discipline Parent Educator, I support parents in broadening their parenting tools to move homes toward peace and away from chaos.

I strongly believe that humans have the capacity to use their personal strengths to resolve problems, attain optimum wellness, and heal from traumatic and stressful experiences and life transitions. Every person is different and should be honored for their unique qualities and abilities. I prefer to work holistically with each client using creative interventions that are unique to their story.

My therapeutic approach is collaborative, creative, inquisitive and trauma informed. I am LGBTQIA+ allied, racial justice allied, body-positivity allied, and sex-positive allied. I integrate evidence-based interventions that are expressive, mindful, and often incorporate play to help both children, teens, adults, and couples to process their emotions and experiences safely. I integrate Existential Therapy, Mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Narrative Therapy, using a client-centered approach.

It is important to me to validate and respect each individual’s story, regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, culture, or ethnicity, every time I share space with them. Together, we will collaborate on how to use these individual strengths and gifts to create a plan and path for well-being and healing one breath at a time.
